Thank you for sending me all your questions about Antarctica. I am so fortunate to have had this experience in Antarctica. I learn so much all the time. I was excited to hear that many other classrooms around Casper are using the pictures from Antarctica. It is a nice coincidence that I am here while the first graders in Casper are learning about Penguins and Antarctica. Here are the answers to some of the questions I was asked:
Has anyone gotten seriously injured from the severe cold? It is something that people that work down here have to deal with all the time. Frost nip, frost bite, and hypothermia are somewhat common. More so the first two. High winds and the cold make it pretty unbearable to deal with sometimes.

Have you seen any polar bear? Actually, there are no polar bears in Antarctica. Antarctica translates to mean, without bears. There are polar bears in the Arctic, like the North Pole, and Arctic means with bears.

Do you get really warm under all those snow clothes you wear? Oh yes, and when we are working hard we usually get pretty sweaty and have to take a lot of the gear off!!!

Is it really cold inside the buildings? No, we have heated buildings and heated rooms so that makes the cold bearable, knowing we can always go back inside to warm up if needed!!!

Have you ever seen penguins? I haven't seen penguins here at the South Pole because there aren't any here. There are penguins at McMurdo station and at the other station, Palmer. But since we are in the middle of the continent, the penguins don't come down here.

How deep is the snow there? It is a looooonnnnggg way down to dirt :)

Does it ever get warm in Antarctica? I'm not sure what you would consider warm, but some places get to around 20 degrees and considering how cold it gets here, that seems really warm :)
Has it ever reached -100ยบ? Yes!!!
I am almost done with my time here in Antarctica. I will hopefully have something to share with you soon from my next adventure.
